A Warhurst family of Hadfield.
In years gone by there were many Warhursts in Hadfield but available records mean that links between them can not always be proved.
Thomas Warhurst was born about 1726. He is recorded as of Hadfield, carpenter & joiner. His wife, Betty, was born about 1720 and they had eight children who can be identified:
Betty Warhurst, baptised 2 October 1747 in Glossop.
Jesse Warhurst born about 1749.
Mary Warhurst, baptised 25 December 1751.
James Warhurst, baptised 20 January 1760.
Timothy Warhurst born about 1767.
Matthew Warhurst born about 1770.
Betty died on 1 May and was buried on 4 May 1787 in Glossop aged 67.
Thomas Warhurst died on 25 January and was buried on 27 January 1792 in Glossop aged 76.
Thomas Warhurst of Hadfield was a brush stock maker/labourer He married Sarah Mellison (daughter of Thomas Mellison of Longley Brook, Bradfield, Yorkshire, butcher) on 27 February 1763 in Glossop. They had a daughter, Martha Warhurst, born 2 February and baptised 7 February 1783 in Glossop.
Jesse Warhurst was born about 1749. He is recorded as of Hadfield, clothier and Roller Turner. He married Nancy Goodison, born about 1745, daughter of John Goodison and Elizabeth Creswel (see A Goodison family of Glossop) on
1 January 1770 in Glossop Parish Church. They had three children:

Josral Warhurst born 7 March 1784.
Joyce Warhurst, born 18 July 1787 and baptised 4 February 1788 in Glossop, buried 13 July 1837 in Glossop aged 49.
Jesse Warhurst was buried on 1 August 1817 in Glossop aged 68.
Nancy was buried on 26 April 1832 in Glossop Parish Church, aged 87.
Mary Warhurst was baptised on 25 December 1751 in Glossop. She married John Newton of Hadfield, wheelwright (son of Benjamin Newton of Wortley, Yorkshire, schoolmaster), on 2 June 1783 in Glossop. They had five children:

Isaac Newton, born 30 December 1785, baptised 4 January 1786 in Glossop.
Joseph Newton, born 1 January 1788, baptised 4 February 1788 in Glossop.
Nancy Newton, born 2 January 1790, baptised 9 January 1790 in Glossop.
Hannah Newton, born 27 May 1792, baptised 6 June 1792 in Glossop.
James Warhurst was baptised on 20 January 1760 in Glossop. A labourer/spinner of Hadfield, he married Mary Bancroft (daughter of William Bancroft of Charlesworth, farmer) on 13 January 1785 in Glossop. They had eleven children:

Elizabeth (Betty) Warhurst, born 18 July 1790, baptised 15 August 1790, died 28 March 1792, buried 30 March 1792 in Glossop aged 1.
James Warhurst, born 21 May 1795, baptised 29 June 1795, buried 19 March 1797 in Glossop aged 2.

William Warhurst, born 16 May 1805, baptised 24 June 1805 in Glossop, buried 7 July 1805 in Glossop, infant.
Ann Warhurst. She married Nehemiah Groves of Hadfield, linen weaver, on 7 May 1785 in Glossop.. They had a daughter, Betty Groves, born 6 February 1788, baptised 6 April 1788 in Glossop.
Timothy Warhurst was, born about 1767 and became a joiner. He married Deborah Williamson, born about 1765, and they had six children:
Mary Warhurst, born about 1790, died 22 January 1811, buried 25 January 1811 in Glossop aged 21.

John Warhurst, born 3 July 1798, baptised 19 August 1798 in Glossop.
Abel Warhurst, born 31 July 1801, baptised 11 December 1801 in Glossop, died 21 December 1826, buried 24 December 1826 in Glossop aged 25.
Edward Warhurst, born 26 April 1804, baptised 2 July 1804 in Glossop.
Issachar Warhurst, born 16 June 1808, baptised 20 October 1808 in Glossop.
Deborah Warhurst (of Stalybridge) was buried on 28 October 1846 in Glossop aged 81.
Timothy Warhurst (of Stalybridge) died on 9 September and was buried on 13 September 1848 in Glossop aged 81.
Matthew Warhurst, of Hadfield, was born about 1770. He married Jane (Jenny) Cooke (daughter of James Cooke of Waterside, wheelwright) on 5 May 1791 in Glossop. They had two children:
James Warhurst, born 30 August 1791, baptised 21 September 1791 in Glossop.
Joseph Warhurst, born 14 June 1802, baptised 5 July 1802 in Glossop, buried 12 February 1803 in Glossop aged 8 months.
Jenny died aged 38 and was buried on 13 April 1803 in Glossop.
Matthew remarried, to Peggy Shaw, on 22 April 1804 in Glossop. They had two children:
Elizabeth Warhurst, born 21 March 1808, baptised 18 April 1808 in Glossop.
Joseph Warhurst, born 27 June 1811, baptised 25 August 1811 in Glossop.
Matthew Warhurst was buried on 15 April 1832 in Glossop aged 62.

Kerenhappuch Warhurst was born about 1771. Her age is calculated from the fact that she died on 2 February 1845 and was aged 74 according to the register index. The 1841 census lists a Caranapoch Bramhall aged 70.
Kerenhappuch had a daughter, Emm Warhurst, who was baptised on 15 November 1789 in Mottram as the illegitimate daughter of Keren-Happuch Warhurst of Hadfield.
She married John Garlick of Lower Barn on 23 August 1790 in Manchester Cathedral. Kerenhappuch was pregnant when John died “of a bloody flux”, aged 22, on 1 March and was buried on 4 March 1791 in Glossop church yard. She gave birth to a daughter, Nancy Garlick, who was baptised on 27 March 1791 in Mottram as the daughter of Keren-happuch Garlick of Lower Barn. Nancy died on 14 July and was buried on 16 July 1792 in Glossop church yard.
Kerenhappuch then married Joseph Bramhall on 22 November 1792 in Glossop (see A Bramhall family of Glossop and Hadfield).
Josral Warhurst was born on 7 March and baptised on 31 May 1784 in Glossop. His name is recorded as Jezareel in baptism entries. A roller turner of Little Padfield, he married Ann Bridge on 6 October 1803 in Glossop Parish Church and they had nine children:
Nancy Warhurst born 28 October 1803.
Thomas Warhurst born 11 July and baptised 18 August 1806 in Glossop Parish Church.
Twins Esau and Jacob Warhurst born 24 May 1808 in Little Padfield and baptised 2 March 1813 in Glossop Parish Church.
Betty Warhurst born in Little Padfield and baptised 2 March 1813 in Glossop Parish Church, buried 28 August 1825 in Glossop aged 13.
Mariah Warhurst baptised 15 October 1815 in Glossop Parish Church.
Josiah Warhurst born in Little Padfield and baptised 29 September 1817 in Glossop Parish Church.
Mary Ann Warhurst born in Little Padfield and baptised 9 April 1820 in Glossop Parish Church. In the 1871 census she is living with Nancy, a 52 year old unmarried cotton winder born in Padfield, recorded as a boarder. In the 1881 census she is living with Hannah (born about
1833), recorded as her aunt.
John Goodison Warhurst born in Padfield, baptised 4 May 1822 in Glossop Parish Church. He was buried in the same grave at Glossop Parish Church as his great uncle, Timothy Warhurst (born about 1767 and buried 13 Sep 1848 aged 81).

Child of James Warhurst.
Penninah Warhurst was born on 23 September and baptised on 1 November 1802 in Glossop. She was recorded as of Hadfield, single woman, when her son Henry Warhurst was baptised 6 August 1823 in Glossop. Henry lived only days, being buried on 12 August 1823 in Glossop.
Penninah was buried on 15 January 1824 in Glossop aged 21.

Timothy Warhurst was born on 22 March and baptised on 6 May 1795 in Glossop. He moved to Hollingworth where he was a carpenter/joiner and had three children:
Mary Warhurst, baptised 2 July 1821 in Glossop.
Abel Warhurst, baptised 14 January 1823, buried 9 December 1824 in Glossop aged 11 months.
Ann Warhurst, baptised 3 April 1825 in Glossop. She married Christopher Hampson, baptised on 16 June 1823 in Glossop son of Christopher Hampson and Elizabeth Hepworth (see The Ham(p)son family of Whitfield) on 15 October 1846 in Glossop.

Nancy Warhurst was born on 28 October 1803 and baptised on 4 January 1804 in Glossop Parish Church. The 1871 census shows her as a 67 year old unmarried housekeeper born in Hadfield.
Nancy had a daughter named Hannah Warhurst who was baptised on 9 August 1832 at Glossop parish church. Hannah married John Platt, son of George Platt and Nancy Dewsnap (see The Platt family of Glossop).
