Mabel Hyde.

Mabel doing high jump Mabel was born in Glossop on 3rd October 1896, her parents were Joseph and Eliza Ann Hyde nee Brooks. She attended Whitfield C of E School and then was a pupil at the Glossop Technical School from September 1909 to July 1916. During this period the Technical School became Glossop Grammar School.
Her sister Laura, who was also a pupil at the school, married John W S Fielding in 1919, the future Headmaster of St Luke's C of E School.
This photo shows Mabel doing the high jump watched by teacher Mr S Holt in the straw hat and a young Cedric Blackman (later Headmaster at West End School).
She then trained as a School Teacher and taught at both Glossop Council School and Hadfield Council School.
This photo is from about 1917 and shows Mabel with Harry Lindsay Hudson and staff of Pikes Lane Council School.

Mabel as a Red Cross V.A.D. nurse In 1918 Mabel enrolled as a Red Cross V.A.D. (Voluntary Aid Detachment) and nursed First World War soldiers at Moorfield House.
It was here that she met her future husband, Sidney Hart, a wounded Royal Warwickshire Officer.
The photo is dated 6th July 1918.
Mabel and Sidney married in 1919, her bridesmaids were sister Laura and friend May Helen (Nellie) Isherwood (later Bates).
This picture is taken in the garden of Howardtown House, the home of William Isherwood, Wood's Mill Manager..

Mabel died in 1974 and her husband in 1984.
