Nields of Whitfield and Hadfield.


It is likely that this family is related to the Nields of Mouselow.

Generation One.

Daniel Nield was described in parish register entries as a clothier of Jumble, Whitfield and Simmondley. He had five identified children:
     John Nield born about 1738.
     Nathan Nield, born about 1742, died 16 January 1750, buried in Glossop, aged 8. His MI also records seven children of Thomas and Martha Nield of Bank Bottom, Hadfield, who all died in their infancy.
     Daniel Nield born about 1749.
     Nathan Nield baptised 26 March 1752.
     James Nield, baptised 24 February 1755 in Glossop, buried 16 July 1811 in Glossop, aged 56.

Generation Two.

John Nield was born about 1738. He died on 20 April and was buried on 22 April 1782 in Glossop aged 44. Described in parish register entries as a clothier of Bank and Whitfield, he had three identified children:
     John Nield born about 1764.
     Daniel Nield.
     Martha Nield.

Daniel Nield was born about 1749, he was described in parish register entries as a clothier of Glossop, a slater of Glossop and of Stockport. He married Martha (Matty) Dewsnap, baptised 9 April 1751 in Glossop, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Dewsnap, (see Dewsnap family of Glossop), on 10 July 1770 in Glossop and they had six children:
     Christopher Nield, born 5 March and baptised 21 April 1782 in Glossop, died 16 December and buried 18 December 1789 in Glossop.
     Luke Nield, born 19 November 1784, baptised 4 January 1785 in Glossop.
     Betty Nield, born 29 March and baptised 11 May 1787 in Glossop.
     Thomas Nield, born 24 December 1789, baptised 7 April 1790 in Glossop.
     Mally Nield, born 19 May and baptised 27 June 1792 in Glossop.
     Wright Nield, born 1 June and baptised 23 September 1796 in Glossop.
Daniel Nield was buried on 25 September 1800 in Glossop (aged 51 of Stockport).
Martha was buried on 5 October 1828 in Glossop, aged 77.

Nathan Nield was baptised on 26 March 1752 in Glossop. He was described in parish registers as of Crosscliffe and Whitfield Barn, a Linen weaver and Spinner. He married Mary Dewsnap, baptised 19 March 1748 in Glossop, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Dewsnap, (see Dewsnap family of Glossop), on 1 September 1776 in Glossop and they had five children:
     John Nield, born 27 March and baptised 21 April 1782 in Glossop, died 21 July and buried 23 July 1782 in Glossop, infant.
     Elizabeth Nield, born 8 August and baptised 5 September 1784 in Glossop. She married her cousin, Luke Dewsnap, born on 14 June 1784 in Glossop, son of John Dewsnap and Deborah Shaw (see Dewsnap family of Glossop), on 26 November 1805 in Glossop.
     James Nield, born 20 May and baptised 24 June 1787 in Glossop.
     Christopher Nield, born 12 May and baptised 20 June 1790 in Glossop. He married Margaret Dearnaley on 16 December 1812 in Glossop.
     Hannah Nield, born 5 May and baptised 17 June 1793 in Glossop.
Mary was buried on 5 May 1797 in Glossop (aged 48 of Stockport).
Nathan Nield was buried on 2 May 1800 in Glossop, aged 48.

Generation Three.

Children of John Nield.

John Nield was born about 1764. He married Martha Knott, baptised 27 October 1757 in Glossop, daughter of George Knott and Grace Syddall (see The Syddall family of Glossop), on 18 January 1785 in Glossop. They had five children:
     James Nield, born 7 December 1785, baptised 17 January 1786 in Tintwistle, died 30 May and buried 31 May 1786 in Glossop, infant.
     Hannah Nield, born 26 March and baptised 22 April 1791 in Glossop.
     Thomas Nield, born 26 September and baptised 3 November 1795 in Tintwistle, buried 3 April 1799 in Glossop aged 5.
     Mary Nield, born 21 January and baptised 4 March 1798 in Glossop.
     Thomas Nield born 5 March 1800.
Martha died on 18 December and was buried on 22 December 1839 in Glossop aged 83.
John Nield died on 5 January and was buried on 9 January 1840 in Glossop aged 76.

Daniel Nield was described in parish register entries as of Padfield, Waterside and Hadfield. He married Betty Hadfield, baptised 14 March 1760 in Glossop (daughter of Thomas Hadfield), on 18 January 1791 in Glossop and they had two children:
     Hannah Nield, born 4 December 1791, baptised 8 January 1792 in Glossop.
     John Nield, born 26 November 1793, baptised 19 January 1794 in Tintwistle, buried 2 May 1802 in Glossop aged 8.
Betty was buried on 25 June 1799 in Glossop aged 39.

Martha Nield married Richard Lee of Hadfield, Spinner (son of Richard Lee), on 23 January 1794 in Glossop. They had eight children:
     James Lee, born 1 August 1794, baptised 16 September 1794 in Glossop.
     Lucy Lee, born 24 April 1796, baptised 29 May 1796 in Glossop.
     Betty Lee, born 19 December 1797, baptised 28 January 1798 in Glossop.
     Matty Lee born 30 October 1801. She had a son, John Nield Lee, baptised on 7 January 1823 in Glossop.
     Levi Lee, born 16 February 1803, baptised 11 April 1803 in Glossop.
     Mary Lee, born 26 February 1805, baptised 8 April 1805 in Glossop.
     Hannah Lee, born 12 February 1807, baptised 29 June 1807 in Glossop.
     Thomas Lee, born 3 May 1809, baptised 3 July 1809 in Glossop.

Generation Four.

Child of John Nield.

Thomas Nield was born on 5 March and baptised on 6 April 1800 in Tintwistle. He was described in parish registers as of Padfield, Manchester, Hadfield, Brookfield and Bridgefield, cotton spinner and married Martha Woofinden on 10 June 1823 in Glossop. They had nine children:
     Ann Nield, baptised 10 August 1823 in Glossop, buried 27 August 1823 in Glossop, infant.
     Jane Nield, baptised 30 August 1824 in Glossop.
     James Nield, baptised 15 December 1825 in Glossop.
     Edward Nield, baptised 22 April 1827 in Glossop. He married Letitia Newton of Padfield on 18 June 1848 in Glossop Wesleyan Church.
     John Nield, baptised 29 March 1829 in Glossop, buried 25 October 1829 in Glossop (infant, of Padfield).
     Samuel Nield, baptised 20 September 1830 in Glossop, buried 12 March 1831 in Glossop, infant.
     Thomas Nield, baptised 23 September 1832 in of Glossop.
     Ellen Nield, baptised 12 July 1835 in Glossop.
     Frederick Nield, baptised 17 September 1838 in Littlemoor Independant.
