Platt, Molly
Baptism : 9 December 1759 in Glossop
Death : 2 November 1789 in Glossop
Burial : 2 November 1789 in Glossop
The baptism entry for Thomas describes her as "of Mowsley".
A number of transcripts of the burial register record Mary as the daughter of James (brother of John). However, there is no alternative death (or marriage) for Molly, no alternative baptism for Mary daughter of James and James did not make any provision for Thomas (who would have been his grandson) in his will made in 1813. Also, why should Joseph Bramhall leave money to the son of a cousin of his wife rather than to the son of her sister? Further study of the original registers shows that the baptism entry is perfectly clear but the burial entry less so. It can be seen how the name of Mary's father was transcribed as James (though it also looks as if it might be Janus or Jonus) but it is also clear that the name is in a different hand from the rest of the writing on the page. It would appear that the forename of Mary's father has been left out when the original entry was made and added in by someone else afterwards. The implication is that whoever made the original entry wasn't sure who the father was and whoever added it may have fudged it a bit as he wasn't sure either. The opinion of a former volunteer at an LDS Centre was sought and the advice received was "I looked at the records and think it says Jonus (I've seen this several times before in those early records) I believe it's the same as John. I was also told this by the Mormon Family History Centre when I worked there years ago.".

Lewis Lister was born 1829 in Mirfield, Yorkshire, the 3rd of 8 known children of John & Sophia nee Fellingham. He married Mary Robinson in 1851 and they had 6 children.
The Lister family came to Glossop circa 1842 and lived at Grove Terrace, off High Street East (near Easton House). Both Lewis and his father were corn millers. A Trade Directory of 1855 lists Lewis as a bookseller, stationer, bookbinder and printer of Henry Street. At the time of the 1861 census Lewis was a letterpress printer employing 4 men and 1 apprentice, of Bernard Street.
Lewis was the Proprietor, editor and printer of The Glossop Record, which was founded on 2 July 1859, being a radical Liberal paper representing the 'hard left' in local politics. It was printed on Saturdays from his steam printing works in Bernard Street, but its leader-writer was Rev Thomas Atkin, minister at Littlemoor Independent Church. He did not hesitate to criticize the Lord of the Manor and any other prominent local figures; to him Potter and Sumner were complete 'wets', Liberal or not. The Record lasted until the mid-1870s and during its existence dispensed a pungent political philosophy. On the 1871 census, Lewis is described as a Master Printer employing 2 men and 2 boys, 46 Bernard Street.
In 1876 Lewis is listed under the title "Glossop Record Printing Co.," booksellers & stationers, Printers and letterpress, 24 Arundel Street, also "Glossop Record Printing Co.," Glossop Record, Saturday Newspaper,
46 Bernard Street. The same year, 1876, William Henry Lister, son, is a grocer at 5 Freetown, Whitfield. By 1878 numbers 3 & 5 are a pianoforte and music warehouse
By 1881 Lewis is living at 3 Freetown, his occupation is Former Letterpress Printer; however a trade Directory at that time lists him as a piano dealer of 3 Freetown. His son, William Henry is living at 7 Baker Street, Marylebone, London, with his family and mother Mary; he is described as a pianoforte dealer.
In 1891 Lewis and his wife Mary are living at 246 Harrow Road, Paddington London, he is a pianoforte warehouse manager. Mary Lister died in 1904 at Paddington and is buried at Glossop Cemetery
In 1908 whilst visiting his daughter in Pikes Lane, Lewis died and was buried at Glossop Cemetery together with his wife, and 3 of their children who died in childhood.
