Arthur was born in Glossop, Derbyshire, on the 24th May, 1885. He enlisted at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, 8th February 1916, stating his occupation as farmer, his address as Waldorf, Saskatchewan, and his next of kin as Ruth Elizabeth Haughton, of 4, Shaw Street, Glossop, Derbyshire.
He was five feet two and three quarter inches in height, had a dark complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, and he was a Congregationalist.
