The Dinting Pit Air-shaft Murders.
The events described in these articles are sometimes referred to as the Simmondley Pit murders because they took place in Simmondley, but the air-shaft concerned was for the disused Dinting Pit.
There have been a number of articles about the murders, some published and some not, some now out of print and some stored in archives out of public view.
This series of articles is based on transcripts of the reports in the Glossop Advertiser at the time. As a result there is an element of repetition but the presentation serves to show how the people of Glossop and district received the news at the time.
I must acknowledge the help of Mike Brown for allowing me to use photos from his collection.
Some parts of the evidence might be distressing to some readers. For that reason they are initially presented as hidden but can be opened using the button provided.
