1901 Census: Ben Thorpe was a 13 year old cotton spinner, residing at 83, Old Road, Tintwistle. He was the son of Frederick Thorpe, a general labourer, and Harriet Thorpe.
At the 1911 Census the family was at the same address. Ben was 23, paster bleachworks.

Ben Thorpe was born in Tintwistle in 1888, the son of Frederick Thorpe and Harriet, formerly Hall, who were married in 1883 at St Michael's Church, Ashton-u-Lyne.
