Norman Hinchliffe was born in 1894 in Crowden, Tintwistle, the son of Charles Hinchliffe and Mary Ellen, formerly Whiteley, who married in 1892 (registration district Huddersfield).
He was the brother of Charles Victor Hinchliffe, also commemorated on the Tintwistle War Memorial.
