John Goddard was born in 1892 (registration district Hayfield), the son of Jabez Solomon Goddard and Ann, formerly Sykes, who were married in 1888 (registration district Hayfield).

1911 census – his father had died, and he is living with his widowed mother and siblings at 20 Post Street, Hadfield, Derbyshire.

Commemorated on the memorial at: Hadfield, Tintwistle and Padfield - Independent Sunday School.
