The family of Joseph Hadfield of Whitfield

Joseph
Hadfield was born on 9 September 1789 in Whitfield and baptised on 12
November 1789 in Glossop. He was the
son of William Hadfield and Martha Goodison (see A Hadfield family of Whitfield).
There is a marriage of a Joseph Hadfield to a Betty Gee
on 17 July 1815 in the Glossop parish register but we know, from
baptism records, that Joseph married Mary Young on 22 Mar 1818 in
Glossop and there is no burial for a Betty Hadfield in the meantime.
Joseph and Mary had nine children:
     Betty
Hadfield born 1819, baptised 27 February 1820 at All Saints, Glossop.
The baptism entry describes her father as a labourer of Whitfield.
In the 1841 census she is listed as a 22 year old cotton weaver. She
had a daughter, Jane Hadfield, born towards the end of 1841 and
baptised 13 February 1842 in Glossop Parish Church. In the 1851
census she is living with her grandparents, age given as 9.
     Martha
Hadfield baptised 6 May 1822 in Glossop.
The baptism entry describes her father as a labourer of Whitfield.
In the 1841 census, her age is given as 19, cotton weaver.
     Jane
Hadfield, baptised 6 May 1825 in Glossop.
     William
Hadfield, born 8 June 1828. In the 1841 census his age is given as
15, cotton weaver.
     Mary
Hadfield, born 3 March 1831. In the 1841 census her age is given as
10, piecer. In the1851 census her is age given as 20, cotton weaver.
     John
Hadfield, born 9 October 1834 in Whitfield, baptised 8 July 1837 in
Glossop parish church (born 9 Feb 183?).
     James
Hadfield, born about 1835 in Whitfield, baptised 8 July 1837 in
Glossop parish church (born 9 Feb 183?). In the 1841 census his age
is given as 6. In the 1851 census his age is given as 15, cotton
weaver, born Whitfield.
     Ann
Hadfield, born 1839. In the 1841 census her age is given as 2. In the
1851 census her age given as 12.
     Joseph
Hadfield, born 1842. In the 1851 census his age is given as 9.
Joseph
is listed as a freeholder of Whitfield in the 1832 Poll Book.
At
the census of 1841 the family was living at Sandy Bank. Joseph was
listed as aged 54, labourer and Mary as 40.
At
the census of 1851 the family was living at Whitfield Leeches. Joseph
was listed as age 62, farmer of 11 acres and Mary as 49.
Joseph
possibly buried on 30 April 1866 at Glossop Cemetery (Grave 877 in
Free Church section, burial of a 78 year old Joseph Hadfield).
