Australian Service Records information:
John enlisted on the 1st October 1914 at Rosehill Camp in New South Wales, Australia. He was employed as a butcher, and had previously served for four years with the 6th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.
He stated his next of kin as Mrs. E. Patchett, of 42, Duke Street, Glossop, Derbyshire. Five feet nine inches tall, he weighed eleven stone eleven pounds, had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, and he belonged to the Church of England.
